Dear Frid,
Wow! It's been quite some time since I wrote anything here. I think I've fallen into second-childitis. Let me try to recap the last couple months...
- You have been kicking up a storm! Sometimes it's right in my ribs, but usually it's in my belly and tickles. The other night you kicked Daddy pretty hard. It's not too often I hear Daddy giggle, but that sure did it.
- We had curry for Christmas. Actually, we waited almost a week to have it. Bug was sick and we just weren't in the mood, so we waited till it could be fully appreciated. I'm happy to report that, after our last encounter with curry, which had me a little anxious about trying it again, there was no bad reaction. Thank you for that! Weirdly enough, I didn't even smell like onions the next day. I always seem to ooze the aroma after eating curry.
- Over the last couple months -- and this may be why I've avoided writing here (not wanting to post all negative) -- I've had a horrendous time with reflux. If I forget to take my heartburn meds, or if I eat too close to lying down for naps/bed, I wake up in coughing fits from inhaling acid, which keep me up for hours. The only comfort (if it can be called that) is to throw up. It's been awful! I realize these are things that I have control over, so I won't blame you. It stinks, though, when after a big lunch I'm ready for a nice, long nap, and can't for fear of the reflux.
- We ordered your bedroom furniture. It's a beautiful set!
We're expecting it to arrive before you do. Hopefully the crib set will get here before you, too. Here's how your room will be decorated:
Bug decided that the walls in your room will be the lighter shade of green, and your curtains will be yellow (just like hers). Mom Mom (my mommy) is going to make the curtains. We may start painting this weekend.
- Speaking of Bug, she's getting pretty excited about your arrival, especially since she's psyched up to make you a birthday cake. It doesn't matter to her that you wouldn't actually eat any of it (directly at least); she just loves making birthday cakes. She isn't, however, very excited about the thought of you squeezing her finger. Try to take it easy on her when you do that, ok?
- What else? OH! There's a small issue I need to address. It's about pain. It seems as though you've gotten your little nugget settled down into my pelvic bone. Sometimes this makes walking quite painful, and stepping over baby gates and climbing up and down stairs absolutely excruciating. The other day I had to sit down and go down the stairs one step at a time on my butt. I'm glad Bug was at school, as I'm sure the sight of me close to tears would have freaked her out! I'll be calling the doctor today to get in for an extra appointment, just to make sure you're not trying to push your way out too early.
- Another thing cropped up this morning. Maybe you've adjusted your head. I got out of bed and was able to skip up the stairs with nary a flinch. Yay! Then again, I had heartburn really bad -- like you had lodged your foot in my stomach to push all the acid up, -- and I had to skip right back down to get an early start on my meds. Does it have to be one or the other? That stuff just ain't right.
- Just to note that if you are coming early, that's ok. I've been measuring big. An extra sonogram I had in December (at 31 weeks) had you measuring at 33 weeks. (I had been blaming Taco Bell for the 14-pound weight gain the month before, but I guess I was a little wrong with that.) You would be just fine developmentally if you came now. There are a couple reasons why we're hoping that you hold off a little longer. First, we don't have everything ready for you just yet. There are clothes to wash, rooms to paint, furniture to receive and assemble, addresses to compile, I could go on, but that's enough. You get the point. The second, and bigger issue, is that we need to get a definite plan in place for Bug for when you come. With Daddy's work schedule (sometimes working during the day, sometimes working during the night), there are a lot of scenarios to plan for, and unfortunately there's no one we know well enough here to feel comfortable asking so much of. I'm sure we'll sort that all out. Bottom line is, if you come anytime soon (before we get these plans made), please come during the week, while Bug is at school. That way, Daddy can be there to greet you, too, and we won't be fretting about your sister!
We're looking forward to meeting you, little girl!
Love,
Momma
