I wouldn't say my husband has a shoe or foot fetish, but he is a total snob when it comes to shoes. It's the first thing he notices on a person (I still don't understand why he gave me a second glance, remembering the school marm outfit with ugly, scuffed flats I was wearing the night we met.), and after ten years together, I should know when he makes comments that he's probably referring to the shoes, but I always forget and miss the fun.
There have been various personality traits of Bug's that we've easily determined from whom they came. Mostly so far they've been from me, which makes sense because we spend so much time together. Thing is, though, what I learned about Bug tonight probably isn't something she's picked up from hanging out with K. It's got to be genetic --- but not in a weird, mutant gene type of way.
While shopping for some warm-weather clothes this afternoon, I realized that we had picked up some outfits that Bug's blue-swooshed Nike tennis shoes will not work with.
At the shoe store, I picked out the following two pairs:
Bug grabbed the following off the shelf, sat down and grunted at her bare feet.
I told her she had nothing to wear with them. She didn't care about this. She wanted to try them on, and once she had them on, she proceeded to parade herself happily up and down the aisle, making sure everyone in the store saw her pretty sparkly shoes.
This reminded me of a woman I saw on some talk show. She was sick of spending so much money on bridesmaids dresses, only to wear them once. She decided that since she couldn't wear the dresses anywhere, she would wear them EVERYWHERE. She published a book of pictures of her in her dresses doing everything from skiing to skydiving to scuba diving. It was my memory of this that led me to buy the shoes that Bug chose. I also wanted to show K that there is hope for Bug when it comes to her fashion sense. [Update: the book]
After taking the above pictures, Bug grabbed her sparkle shoes off the table and had me put them on her again. Then she sumodanced around the livingroom.
